Body Dynamics System (BDS) is a whole person approach to healthy weight management. Research in the mind-body field of health and wellness repeatedly shows that it is almost impossible to experience strong, positive emotions when dissatisfied with the look and feel of the body. When appreciation and respect for the body improves…so does the overall quality of life.
The Body Dynamic approach moves attention away from dieting, weight and body image and towards healthy, balanced living. It assists clients in assessing the root causes of their attitudes and behavior and provides ways to reframe and change outmoded patterns. The BDS has a proven track record for assisting clients in reaching a place where they enjoy the bodies they are in. With the “your body is your buddy” approach clients begin to feel good about themselves.
With that mindset there is greater motivation to develop and maintain a lifestyle that promotes health and youthful vigor at any age. The Body Dynamics System combines theory, easy to apply change technique, inner/outer balancing methods and self-discovery exercises. It assists clients in developing a different relationship with their bodies through a variety of “body sense” methods. This system also provides ways to access powerful inner resources that promote lasting change from the inside out.
What Can the Body Dynamics System Do For Me?
The Body Dynamics Systems provides tools that reveal why “you” are more important than any outer measurement be it, the scale, gender, age or any other outer “definer.” It explores the dieting mentality and the reasons why dieting is not an effective weight management strategy.
Course material explores patterns of yo-yo dieting, binge eating, body image fixation, purging, fixated calorie counting, self-starvation and excessive exercise and what they represent. With increased self-awareness it is possible to begin making more life affirming choices.
The BDS also:

Addresses how distortions in body image develop and how to change them.

Presents ways to break free from limiting patterns of eating, thinking, feeling and behaving.

Provides a starting point and moves into realistic and effective goal-setting/goal getting methods.

Courses are offered to individuals or in groups within a variety of time structures according to participants’ preferences. For example:
8-2 hr. sessions, 4 ½ day sessions, 2- 1 day sessions, 2 day weekend intensives
BODY DYNAMICS/BODY SENSE COURSES
This is the introductory level of the Body Dynamics System. Topics include: Why dieting alone is not an effective way to lose weight and keep it off. This level explores how perceptions about the body develop and its relation to weight, food, and self-worth. It also offers insights about compulsive coping patterns, distracted emotional eating and provides ways to begin to make healthier choices. In keeping with the “your body is your buddy” theme the material emphases the importance of appreciating the body you “live” in.
DEVELOPING YOUR BODY SENSE
The material in this course explores the “you” inside your body. Self-perception usually develops through feedback from others, the media and/or social cultural conditioning. All change begins with awareness and the goal of this course is to assist participants in changing and realigning their views about themselves and their bodies to ones that improve health and well-being. Emphasis is placed on hidden hungers and how they can trigger a need to indulge in emotional, automatic, distracted and disordered eating. We suggest the A-Way…awareness, attitude, accountability, and action.
THE WHOLE PERSON APPROACH OF THE BODY DYNAMICS SYSTEM
The Body Dynamics System is designed to move attention away from outwardly driven goals and towards health and wholeness. The material in this course provides ways to manage stress, establish safe emotional boundaries and obtain and maintain inner/outer balance. As greater “body-sense” develops it becomes easier to care for oneself other than with food and enjoy the perks of exercise and self-care, and building rest and relaxation into your lifestyle.
BODY DYNAMICS SYSTEM OF APPLICATION
The material in this course addresses resistance to change and how to move beyond comfort zones of familiarity and maintain a successful, healthy relationship with your body. It focuses on centered, conscious living and provides ways to make proactive rather than reactive choices consistently over time. There is an emphasis on accentuating each positive change and evaluating progress in gentle and supportive ways. As participants learn to change their attitudes…they are able to change their life in ways that lead to the achievement of goals and a happy, healthy life.
