De-Clutter
You will never know what is enough
Unless you know what is
more than enough.

--William Blake

It has been said that “there is a little pack rat inside everyone” and for some that “little” can become a lot. Clutter usually becomes a problem for those who have attained, accumulated and collected more than they need—or use.  When the topic of clutter comes up it is often associated with one’s environment.  That is one form…but there are others.

Consider those who are caught in a “busy-ness” syndrome where they continue to overbook themselves with one commitment, project or responsibility after another. It also shows in endless mind chatter that keeps people awake at night. Excessive spending and eating are other examples of clutter.
Taming the paper tiger is an ongoing challenge because of junk mail, magazines, brochures, newspapers, letters and unprocessed mail.  The more stuff people have, the harder it is to keep track of it.   Paper, books, clothing, magazines, tools, collectibles, activities, projects, relationships, commitments all take energy to maintain.   A cluttered life  is  stifling and   attending
to it all can weigh down the psyche, and detract from the overall quality of life.
Attachment is bondage.
--Buddhist teaching

Through time habits and mindsets become ingrained and it can be difficult to shift into a “use it or lose it” attitude. No one can change until they are ready to admit that the they way they are doing things is no longer working.  Prospective clients call Fresh Beginnings when they are truly ready to do whatever it takes to de-clutter, de-stress and simplify their lifestyles.
Habit is a cable;
we weave a thread of it every day,
and at last we cannot break it.

Horace Mann.

THE FRESH BEGINNINGS APPROACH TO CLUTTER:

The same principle holds true for clutter and disorder...that the “outer is a reflection of the inner."  Initially we ask clients to consider a few of the following questions.

Ÿ
Are they ready to  begin letting go of their clutter?
Ÿ
If not...why?
Ÿ
How does their cluttered lifestyle make them feel?
Ÿ
Is clutter having a negative impact on themselves or their loved ones?
Ÿ
What does living in a cluttered, disordered environment represent?
Ÿ
What does their clutter “give them?”
Ÿ
Would they like to exchange clutter for a less encumbered lifestyle?

These questions and others assist clients in developing some insight about what their clutter represents. With greater awareness about some of the underlying dynamics of clutter it becomes easier to re-frame beliefs and change  them. We assist clients in implementing their action plans. They begin with a realistic starting point and a  time for completion.  This approach is consistent in both our private and group life coaching sessions.  We offer practical, efficient methods for de-cluttering and creating order that can be applied immediately.
